About the Position:
HUB International is seeking a Data Warehouse (DW) Engineer on our Business Applications & Operations Technology team. We seek individuals who have a passion for data warehousing techniques to turn complex data structure into actionable insights and work with a collaborative team that is responsible for driving the adoption of data driven decision making through standardized process. The DW Engineer plays a critical role in partnering with team members within HUB to migrate and process data from a variety of environments into the Azure cloud. HUB International finds value in embracing analytics as an important tool to better understand our corporate environment, our regional business model and our producers in the field.
The DW Engineer supports initiatives in a fast-moving, acquisitive market leader that are quantitative and sustainable. He/she will play an active champion role in the development, administration and maintenance of a world-class Business Intelligence Center of Excellence – an initiative to foster an environment where HUB International staff are empowered to make smarter decisions faster using validated and accessible information.
The Data Warehouse Engineer will primarily be responsible for the discovery, design, build and migration experience for our data warehouse infrastructure. Additionally this role will maintain the current solution and be an active participant in the decommissioning of legacy solutions.
Responsibilities :
Plan, coordinate, develop and support EDW development including architecting table structure, building ETL process, documentation, and long-term preparedness
Analyze, design, develop, implement and maintain technical solutions in Azure using data warehouse technologies, SQL Server 2016 with sharing, distributed cache solution, SSIS, and ETL solutions
Develop cross validation rules to ensure data accuracy
Shares in the technical supervision of a small team of onshore/offshore development and quality assurance resources to insure timely delivery of all reporting solutions
Define technical approach documents (define calculated logic, process flow)
Meet business requirements of the projects as new data sources are added
Provide production support of existing ETL processes
Document steps needed to migrate database objects between various environments including Development, UAT, Staging, and Production
Provide regular project updates to Information Analysts and management as needed
Communicate issues, risks, and concerns proactively to management and engage colleagues while working in a hybrid Agile/Scrum process
Document ETL process thoroughly to allow peers to assist with support as needed
Provide technical supervision and task delegation to a flexible team of staff engineers, consultants and interns in close coordination with team Managers and Directors
Engages the HUB business community as a subject matter expert champion within the Business Intelligence Center of Excellence
Requirements :
Bachelor's degree in computer science required and 5 or more years’ experience in information technology OR 12 years’ progressive experience with data engineering and data warehouse technologies with a focus on the Azure platform in the past 5 years to present
Microsoft Certified Professional in the Azure fundamentals track is strongly preferred
Knowledge of best practices in enterprise wide database implementation, availability and security configuration
Experience with various database administration tools (SQL 2005/2008, ORACLE), SQL clusters, MSCS, reporting tools (SSRS, report writer) and ETL tools (DTS/SSIS)
Knowledge of T-SQL, PL/SQL, No SQL, DAX, the Common Data Model, relational database technologies and related information technology
Experience in the Kimball method of database design & OLAP technology
Good understanding of SSIS Packages and third party components (Fuzzy lookup, Slow Changing Dimensions, CSV files, FTP, etc.)
Advanced understanding and comprehension of XML
Experience in relational and multi-dimensional databases as well as 2-tier and 3-tier architecture. Versed in designing and overall strategy with business intelligence systems in the Microsoft Azure ecosphere
Knowledge and direct experience working with Azure Data Catalog, Azure Data Bricks, Azure DevOps (formerly MTFS), SharePoint, PowerApps, Flow and the O365 platform
Ability to function under close deadlines with minimal supervision and under potentially stressful situations
Superior oral and written communication skills; capacity to explain complex solutions to non-technical business, process and solution owner-partners internally, along with corporate executives, directors, managers, staff and contractors
Both educate and inform to a wide range of audiences; advanced documentation skills to track feedback and action items through the entire project lifecycle
Nights, weekends, and non-regular hours may be required to deploy and make ready solutions that require support and collaboration from resources globally
