Performs technical tasks including administration, programming, and automation in support of the development, testing, and delivery of the Enterprise Systems (ES) initiatives at Indiana University. Performs analysis, programming, scripting, automation, administration, troubleshooting, bug-fixing, tuning, testing, documentation, and support of ES applications, services, platforms, and infrastructure. Works as an effective part of a team providing training, guidance, and mentoring to less experienced staff; and works with staff across the organization to mentor, train, and assist with the creation of effective software delivery pipelines.
Demonstrates initiative, creativity, and innovation in the development of processes and tools that support reliable and efficient software. Continually seeks out and implements mechanisms for automating and increasing the efficiency of the entire software delivery lifecycle. Develops effective interfaces between systems, understands and is well versed in the creation and consumption of APIs. Assists with management of application releases.
Responds to customer requests and work queues. Works effectively with both development and infrastructure staff and possesses a working knowledge of software development as well as system administration and operations. Collaborates with technical and functional business clients and teams within the central information technology organization.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related-field and two years of professional experience working as a software engineer or systems administrator.
Combinations of education and related experience may be considered.
Experience working with automation and orchestration tools, such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet, Git and container technologies such as Docker; and experience with continuous delivery platforms such as Bamboo or Jenkins, developing or administering production software applications, and building and using continuous delivery and deployment pipelines for complex software. Strong skill with scripting and coding leveraging Bash, PowerShell, JavaScript, Java, Ruby, Python, or similar languages; and experience with, and understanding of virtualization software. Understanding of common design patterns, microservice architecture, test-driven development, and agile methodology; in-depth understanding of the DevOps movement and experience applying DevOps principles and practices within an enterprise setting; and experience provisioning and working with infrastructure and platforms in the cloud, such as Amazon Web Services or Azure.
Proven problem solving skills including demonstrable skill in analyzing complex problems and producing concrete, actionable solutions, specifically as it pertains to production troubleshooting; and experience resolving highly complex integration issues involving multiple technologies and business areas. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills including a customer service attitude and willingness to work in a team-oriented environment; and enthusiasm for learning new technologies and enacting real and positive change within a large organization.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in both the software engineering and systems administration fields; VMWare experience.
