JOB SUMMARY:
Geisinger’s Department of Imaging Science and Innovation is seeking a highly talented and self-motivated bioinformatics postdoctoral fellow.
A successful candidate has a PhD with experience in bioinformatics and computational biology, genomics, metagenomics, and machine learning and seeks to apply these skills to challenging real-world problems. The individual will conduct and manage multiple research and innovation projects under the supervision of a faculty principal investigator (PI). These projects will leverage world-class data resources at Geisinger:
- 20+ year longitudinal electronic health record encompassing over 1.8 million patients
o Extensive longitudinal clinical data on population with low out-migration
- Prospective genome project with rapidly growing exome sequence database
o 200k consented, 130k sampled, 90k participants sequenced from large biobank
o linked to the electronic health record and imaging data
o clinical return of results program
- 18+ year clinical image Picture Archiving and Communication System [PACS]
o 10 million radiological studies and 1.3 petabytes of clinical images
§ 500k echocardiograms
§ 400k abdominal CTs
§ 200k brain MRIs
- Fully accessible imaging archive
o Research PACS and automated image de-identification pipeline
- GPU (DGX-1) resources and coding environment within the clinical network
- Extensive healthcare claims database
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Proficiency with the theory and applications of common machine learning and computational intelligence algorithms, strategies, and methods.
Proficiency with coding machine learning / computational intelligence applications in common mathematical / scientific computing languages (e.g. Matlab, R, Python).
Proficiency with statistical analysis of biomedical data including GWAS and PheWAS techniques.
Proficiency with graph mining algorithms and system biology is preferred.
Proficiency with data integration/fusion techniques is preferred.
Demonstrates extensive knowledge base in computational biology, bioinformatics, genomics or related field.
Demonstrates strong critical thinking skills.
Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
Demonstrates the ability to work in an independent manner and complete increasingly complex assignments.
Demonstrates strong teamwork skills and the ability to work effectively in a group environment.
Demonstrates exceptional organizational, planning, and analytical skills.
Demonstrates competence in written, oral, and electronic communication skills (interpersonal/communication and technological effectiveness competencies).
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Ph.D. in computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science or related field is required.
